Hi! I'm R. Steve McCollum, webmaster for this weblog, Arlington Texas Attractions.com. I am also a native of this area. In 1961, I was one of the first teenagers to visit the newly opened Six Flags Over Texas. Years later, some of my kids worked summers at Six Flags. Today, Six Flags is my granddaughter's favorite fun outing.
In June of 2008, I ended eight years of service as an At Large Member of the Arlington City Council. For several years prior to City Council service, I volunteered on these City committees...

There were other City-related activities...
- Co-authored with Del Taebel, a UTA Urban Studies professor, the rules and format for a Council district representation map, which is still in use today, and
- Member of several Capital Improvements bond campaigns for streets, parks and libraries.
My City Council tenure included...

- Serving on the 2006 Tarrant County Transportation Bond Committee,

- Arlington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, 2005 Champion of our Community Award, and
- Heritage & Hope Ministries, Inc. and Dwight McKissic, Sr., Community Improvement Award.
I am also active in the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. There, I am a member of the Chamber Foundation Board of Directors. Past member of the Chamber Board of Directors. And, a founding and current member of the Arlington Arts Alliance.
Before my public duties, I was...

My volunteerism also extented to the Arlington ISD. There I was...
